EXPAND a Sign recently launched the Uzwelo Bags initiative that sees thousands of metres of their waste textile fabric donated to sewing teams from underprivileged backgrounds to make unique South African bags (laptop bags, luggage suitcase covers, school backpacks, shopper bags.)
These sewing teams can earn a living that puts food on the table for their families, funds education and provides dignity and upliftment for their communities on a long-term basis.
“We have been delighted by people’s response for the Uzwelo bags and this increase in interest led us to create an online e-commerce webshop. Designed by our partners, Lifetime Media, the online store has a clean design, simple ordering process and is mobile friendly,” says Kirsty Fonzari, Expand a Sign brand manager.
A key philosophy behind the Uzwelo Bags initiative challenges individuals to focus on what they can do to effect positive change in South Africa. “The online store provides accessibility for everybody to be a part of that change by allowing them to purchase their own, unique Uzwelo Bag, and in turn, uplift a community.
“Uzwelo delivers nationwide and people can either pay manually via EFT or via the PayFast payment gateway using a debit or credit card,” adds Kirsty.
